Mass Transit

Nope, not going to bash on our Portland MAX… I rode to a newer podcast from PodRunner called (you guessed it) “Mass Transit” 160 bpm (80 rpm).

Tonight’s ride makes # 2 for 2009. I am noticing that if the temperature is in the 30’s outside, I don’t ride (the garage is just too cold), in the 40’s or higher, I’m more apt to ride. Lets keep praying for warmer days! (I know, spring is around the corner, I just need to be patient!)

Total miles for 2008

I rode my final ride for 2008 on Wednesday, used a PodRunner podcast called “Progressive”, 140 bpm (70 rpm). I find that the podcasts in the 140-160 range to be the most comfortable to ride with (matches my “normal” cadence when outside).

I ride in my garage during the winter and even with insulated walls, it’s still bone chilling. Not much of a motivator looking forward to a ride on an ice box!

Total miles as of 31 Dec 2008: 3763.1

Total miles since May 2002: 29577

Freezer…

During the winter months here in Oregon, the weather outside is usually too cold to do any meaningful riding outside and I revert to riding the trainer in the garage. The past two weeke we’ve had snow outside bringing the temperature in the garage to “unbearable”. A “space” heater sometimes works for such an occasion, however, I would rather not use it if I can get away with it.
As stated many times, time away from riding is actually a good thing - all things in moderation.

12 inches of SNOW!

Last night I unburied my HHR from 9 inches of snow and put on chains preparing for today’s commute. Well, after removing another 4 inches, and traveling to my main roads (going about 4 mph) I decided to return home. No need to kill myself getting to work, especially knowing that this is a short week because of Christmas.

Snow!

For most the past week and all day Saturday it has snowed!  This is the most snow I’ve seen staying on the ground in the 12 years I’ve lived in Newberg!

It’s close to 6″ deep with more possible tonight…

Monday’s commute will be a “fun” one - good thing I have chains for the HHR.
