Three weeks from now will be the start of the 2009 Seattle to Portland 206 mile bicycle ride! Three weeks, boy does time fly!
I have ridden just over 2300 miles for the year, most of them being ridden on my Qnt26, affectionately called “Q”. My averages are not as fast as the Micro, but the more I ride the “Q”, the faster I do go. The only way to ride faster is to ride faster!
This will be my eighth “one day” Seattle to Portland, my first on the “Q”. As mentioned, the more I ride it, the faster I get. Here’s to a quick 2009 STP!
In January I started a trike ride group to encourage other trikers to come and enjoy rural Oregon, meet new people and perhaps get the bug to ride longer rides. The group has been “hit or miss”, mostly miss, but today had a great ride with one other triker.
The route I choose was to go to Willamette Mission State Park. This is a fairly non challenging 60 mile ride, usually I can complete the route in 3 hours. Today, knowing that I was “leader”, far better to hold back to ensure that no one was lost. Still the ride was fun and that is the important thing, keeping it fun!
Next week, the plan is to ride to Hagg Lake and back, another favorite route that is challenging on a trike. The route is hilly and on a trike, gravity is not your friend! On a standard bicycle you can stand on the pedals to “step” up hills, on the trike that is not an option. The trick is to gear down and spin (spinning is something I need to work on).
