Saturday I went with two friends for a 100 mile ride, took it easy with them (the oldest in our group turned 61 not too long ago! Go Steve!). We are training for the Seattle to Portland in July, this will be my 8th 200 mile 1 day ride.
Last year Steve wasn’t able to finish the one day STP, so this year it’ll mean a lot to him to finish the one day double century – we are cheering for him!
At mile 65, getting late in the day, Steve being the busy guy that he is, needs to end his ride early. Garth and I wait while Steve gets picked up.
Once Steve is safely on his way (his wife came to pick him up), Garth and I ride on to finish out the ride, hopefully getting to 100 miles – the day’s objective.
Now it gets interesting, Garth pulls ahead of me, begging me to catch him, but as I begin to pedal faster and breathe harder, a bee flys into my mouth! Cough, cough, choke, choke, OUCH! Spit out the bee and I’ve been STUNG! I’ve never been stung in the mouth before!
Another good reason I ride a tricycle!
Garth gets smaller as he rides into the distance…
As I regain composure and pedal faster, I reel Garth back in, wondering “am I alergic to bees?
Thankfully I can answer that question on a positive note – I’m not alergic to bees!
We finish the ride at Garth’s home, ending the day at just over 95 miles!
Not a bad ride – bee sting and all!
