Having my Micro for over 7 years and ridden over 30000 miles, there are many changes I made to it from the “stock” setup. These “lessons learned” I applied to my Qnt 26 build.
This past Thursday I finished the Qnt 26, and it looks quite nice!
I’ve used SRAM Red components, 165mm cranks with 50/34 chainrings, front and rear derailers, 1090r hollowpin chain, SRAM carbon TT 900 bar end shifters, SRAM Force 11-28 cassette.
I am reusing an older Shimano Ultegra hub laced on a Velocity Deep-V 700c.
The front hubs are from ICE, laced on Alex Rims DA16 406 rims.
I am using mirrored mechanical disc brakes.
Brake levers are TRP ML950 full carbon.
Cables are Delta Cycles “powerlines” for both brakes and shifters.
Tires are Schwalbe Tires new folding “Durano” with light tubes.
To manage the chain line, I’m using Terracycle idlers and no chain tubes.
Total weight of the trike with the fiberglass seat from ICE is 34 lbs!
With the carbon its only a pound lighter at 33 lbs.
My Micro is 32.6 lbs!

beautifull work. Three years ago i have also bought a frame kit from Ice and i have built a complete trike with a lot of satisfaction.Your Q 26 has a very clean line. I like very much the rear big wheel . Respect 3×20 the trike with the rear big wheel has a more aggresive look . For this reason three years ago i have decided to bought a Monster frame kit instead a Micro like your first trike. In that period there was not the option for the Q26.
Your Q26 is really fine and i am sure that you’ll have a lot of satisfaction on road and also a lot of speed.I greet you from Italy

That trike looks beautiful. You’ve done a fine job of putting it together. I have one question though. Looking at the geometry of your handlebar, doesn’t it move the the side quite a bit when you steer sharply? There seems to be a long handlebar stem going from the lateral bar forward to the pivot point, which looks to me like it would make the whole bar swing side-to-side when you steer. Given that the space between the handlebar uprights is not that wide, doesn’t that make the bars hit your legs or hips when you turn sharply?
Actually, yes, the handlebars do touch my hips if I turn sharply and it’s something you wouldn’t do normally.
With the trike (both my Micro and the new Q) you have rotate your hips such that you are on your side just a bit when doing really sharp turns to move your weight so you don’t tip.
Good morning !
I am planning on building a Trice QNT 26 trike, either complete from ICE or as a frameset a la carte, like you did.
Either way, I want mechanical disc brakes.
I could not find your feedback about your Winzip brakes. Are you happy with them, our would you rather advise Avid BB7 brakes (+ reversed kingpost arm) ?
Winzip’s website says “compatible with Shimano Deore mechanic disc brake”. Does this apply to pads or rotors ?
What about the seat. Should I really order a carbon shell seat (which one ?) or is the ICE hard shell seat OK (albeit 1 pound heavier) ? Anyway, I think that ICE does not sell frameset kits less seat. Do they ?
Have a nice day !

Hi !
Too bad you did not bother replying.
I wish you nice rides nonetheless.

Sorry about not replying sooner (and thanks for the nudge)
I have two problemss with the Winzips
1) No US distributor – I imported them directly from WinZip
2) When wet they are noisy when breaking! (who needs a horn when you have loud breaks
Other than that they do what they are supposed to do – they stop really well.
By the way, I did order the adapter so I can use Avid’s BB7 mechanical brakes if I choose to do so.
I’m also considering going to the SACH’s hub brakes – the reason is lower spoke count (32 versus 36).
WinZip is talking about the pads, which makes it easy find replacement brake pads.
Most disk rotors are compatible through out the industry – rotors are easy to come by…
The issue I have with ICE’s seat configuration is that it is “fixed” to 6 positions, where as on the Micro, it is “infinate”. Using a 700c wheel on the rear raises the Qnt 26 seating position (even when the hard shell seat is at its lowest position).
I’m using ICE’s hardshell seat mainly for comparision purposes. I have 2 carbon seats that I have to finish drilling holes for and add the hardware to mount on the “Q”. Measure multiple times, drill once, hopefully you’ll get it right (that’s why I have two carbon seats… I messed up on the mounting holes on the first one).
Let ICE know what you plan on doing, they’ll sell you the frame kit with only the parts you want.
Hello !
Thank you for your answers !
Brake pads for cars sometimes have cardboard silencers that you put between the brake pads and the calipers. It could be worth trying it on your tricycle.
Have a nice day !

I stock WinZip brakes Doug; we have been using them on our trikes exclusively since 2003 and all our production bikes in Japan use them. They use Shimano pads which can be purchased anywhere. WinZip is a division of my Mount which also owns Chosen Hubs, again we use these on all our trikes. If you contact April the USA sales rep for Chosen she can get you different pads, the organics work good in the rain.
I assume you are using the MAX160 and XAM160 that we had developed for OEM on our trikes. There good brakes and far more adjustment than any other brake I have used. We have used Avid Juicy 7 on a customers trike and he has never been able to get them to run drag free as there is no adjustment for piston position.
See you on the rides and glad to see you on a big wheel Trice finally.
