Thoughts on the New Year

2009 started as any other year, with the clock ticking past midnight and revelers ringing in the new year, however, as this year slowly progresses, my thoughts yearn for a time long past, a time for which I can not return.
As I ponder these feelings, it comes clearer that there are people that have been in my life that I should at least make an attempt to reconnect with.
Being a military “brat”, and spending much of my youth overseas, reconnecting is perhaps made more significant, we “brats” don’t really have a place to call “home” while under the care of our parents – just each other. Our parents careers take us many places throughout our lives, during which, we have the opportunity to meet and know many people, experience different cultures overseas.
Some years are harder than others, especially when the turnover is high.
I hope this year will bring rekindled friendships, and understand that even after all these years, we “brats” are still connected with each other.
I graduated in 1983 from Wagner High School, Clark AFB, Philippines and have fond memories of my time there. During my years at Clark, I made many friends, and had one I would call close. He joined the US Army just before graduation in 1983, and we had sporatic contact over the years. In 2005, when I received the news of his passing, it stung to say the least. The years passed so quickly that before I knew it, he was gone.
If I am able to reconnected with at least a few of my fellow classmates, this will be a grand year!
