Riding Season

As the weather starts to change, and days grow shorter, my riding habits also change. I’ve ridden twice this week, didn’t feel like riding and as I’ve mentioned before, taking time off from riding is just as important as riding.

This year I have an additional goal to update my MCSE (then upgraded to the new Microsoft certification). Along with riding, I’m also scheduling time to study - need to expand these old brain cells.

Miles as of 13 Sep 2008

Total miles for 2008 as of 13 September: 3154.4

Total miles since 2002: 28965

At my current pace looks like I’ll break 30000 miles ridden since I purchased my trike in 2002 - wow, how time flies!

I may break 4000 miles this year, about 2000 miles less than last year, but not too bad either. I feel strong, and I had a great riding season.

Hagg Lake

This morning rode to Hagg Lake, averaged 17.3 mph for the 50 mile ride. Considering that my riding season is coming to a close and long rides will become few and far between in the coming months, it felt quite good to get out and stretch the legs!

Dark Designs

Another trainer night last night - podcast from PodRunner “Dark Designs” 142 bpm (71 rpm).

Riding at the same speed, but a lower cadence than Monday:

5 minute warm up (61×11)

1 minute at (61×10)

4 minutes at (61×11)

Repeate 11 times

I didn’t feel as burnt out as Monday either - looks like I’m “slow twitch” versus “fast twitch”

Pro Forma

Trainer night - rode to a podcast from PodRunner: “Pro Forma” 163 bpm (81 rpm)

One thing about interval training is that over time it will make you stronger and faster and you don’t have to train as often!

My training now consists of 3 days on the trainer, and one day reserved for a long ride outside or another ride on the trainer (depending on the weather). Four hours minimun for the week.

Tonights interval:

5 minute warmup (61×13)

1 minute (61×11)

4 minute (61×13)

repeat 11 times

Doing intervals always keep hydrated!
