2000 Miles!

Two weeks before the Wasco 75 and I have over 2000 miles ridden! Checking last years numbers I has a little over 1200 mile. I feel great and being consistant has been the key.

Using the trainer more this year in my routine has made it easier to train during the wet days.

Looking forward to a fast Wasco - even if I do get lapped!

Hagg Lake…

Hagg Lake is about 28 miles from my home, 57 miles or so round trip. It is a very scenic route in the “back country” of rural Oregon.

This ride takes me about 3 hours to complete averaging over 18 mph. This ride also has a great mix of hills and flats - a good challenge especially after riding the trainer all winter.

I have almost 2000 miles ridden two weeks prior to the Wasco 75! (last year I was shy of 1200!) I think I’ll do quite well in the trike class this year.

The Seattle to Portland is just around the corner, looking forward to more miles and riding a couple of centuries (I thought about ridding one today, but, no need to kill myself before the Wasco.)

I’ve changed my routine this year - instead of riding every other day, I’m riding 6 days a week. On the days I ride outside I’ll ride 30-40 miles. The next day, I’ll ride on the trainer riding no more than an hour. Sundays for the most part I’ll not ride. I feel stronger and my averages for this year are also up!

Great week!

This has been a great week for riding! The weather has been relatively warm and dry the past couple of days. I was able to ride two 30 mile rides Wednesday and Friday bringing my total miles ridden for 2007 to just over 1500 miles! At this pace I’ll be quite ready for the Wasco…

Average ride length: 19.7 miles

Average speed during the ride: 17.0

My last few ride speed averages have been over 19 mph for mor than an hour, well in line to make a fair showing.

Hopefully later today the sun will re-appear and I can do a 50 mile ride, if not, I’ll do a “light” ride on the trainer to keep my legs limber.

Riding…

In my current riding schedule, I ride about an hour a night on the trainer, 5-6 days a week and log the ride and what I have eaten during the day. As the year progresses my training routine will soon take me outside with the available daylight growing longer, for which I am so looking forward to!

Moving my training routine to outside, in the fresh air and changing scenery of the ride brings encouragement for further improvement!

This past winter has taught me that I don’t have to ride long hard hours to see improvements.

Knowing that I need to be consistent with my training and eating habbits has helped me loose weight and improve my overall health. Since November I have lost 25 pounds (I’m now 190) and have ridden 1400 miles! At this point last year, I was over 200 pounds and rode almost 850 miles.

In short, the lesson for me this year is “consistency”… Taking time for myself and my health is the best investment for my family overall!
