One Thousand Miles…

Taking a look at my logs I’ve noticed that I have already ridden 1000 miles! I didn’t do that last year until the end of April!

I think limiting my rides to an hour during the week is helping build up my base. Last year my rides were 1.5 to 2 hours long when I rode, and rode 3-4 times a week. Looking back, I didn’t ride all that often! It would seem that I was “burned out” and didn’t know it…

Keeping trak of my weight has also been a great help… I’ve lost over 20 pounds now with 10 more to go. At the rate I’m going, I’ll reach my goal of 185 in no time!

I should be in great shape for the Wasco in May.

50 miler…

I’ve been watching the wether all week with baited breath… will it rain?… will it be sunny?… will it be warm?… All things a “fair weather” rider wants to know…

My most important criteria - not raining - came to pass today! It was a tolerable 50f when I ventured out for my ride. Wearing long sleves and tights kept me from being chilly (as long as I didn’t stop very long). Seeing the sun during my rides is a plus, but here in Oregon, “sunny” isn’t likely to happen during February. Did I mention, it wasn’t raining?

The clouds hung in there for all of my ride, with the sun peeking out every once in a while during the three hours on the road - just enough to remind me that that “ball of fire” is still there despite the winter we’ve had.

All said, I rode 57 miles today, and averaged 18.9 mph! Not bad for spending most of my winter on the trainer, in the meat locker - I mean garage…

I also burned over 3000 calories - time to go enjoy a greasy burger and fries!

Getting Closer…

Stepped on the scale last night… I’m getting closer to my goal for the Wasco - 9 pounds to go to reach 185!

Counting calories really works. No fad diets, no “special” foods, no group meetings! Just a willingness to be honest with yourself as to what you are eating - on the plus side, I can eat whatever I want! (granted, if I want to eat the bag of Oreo cookies, that may be the ONLY thing I eat that day).

Last year I took the approach that as long as I was exercising I could eat what ever I wanted (no calorie counting) and I would at least maintain my weight - NOT!

So, back to calorie counting and life long success…
